Job Description: Network Engineer
Job Function
PlanetMagpie’s Network Engineers perform IT implementations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and support for small and mid-market businesses in the Bay Area and the U.S. Our consulting projects utilize the latest Microsoft, telecom, and network security technologies to provide our clients with the most reliable, business grade solutions available.
The Network Engineer position is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and troubleshooting of a variety of network projects at client sites. Typical projects for this consultant will include Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 R2, Microsoft System Center 2010, MOM 2007 R2, Data Protection Manager 2010, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010, SBS 2011, and Lync 2010. The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate excellent project management and communication skills in addition to a strong technical background. Candidate should be able to scale the solution to the customer's needs. Previous pre-sales experience with a consulting/professional services company is a plus. Travel may be required on occasion.
Responsibilities
- Collect customer business and technical needs
- Lead project planning and develop project plan
- Evaluate and architect network architecture plans
- Recommend and be responsible for implementing network technologies including directory, messaging, database, systems management, security, and infrastructure
- Assist sales team in identifying and closing project opportunities
Skills & Qualifications
- Skill areas: MS System Center 2007; Active Directory; MS Exchange Server, MCSE, MOM, SMS, Project Management, Forefront, SQL Server, ISA, Cluster, DPM, OCS/Lync Server
- Enterprise Networking
- Ability to assess a broad range of technologies including LAN/WAN, VPN, Directories, Messaging, IDP, and Overall Network and Systems Management
- MS Exchange implementation and migration experience required
- Network hardware and firewall experience required
- Desktop support for Macs and PCs
- Excellent organizational and project management skills required
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Security capabilities and certifications a plus
- Cross platform skills preferred
Education/Training
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science (or a related field) or relevant associates degree/work experience (transcript required)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certification (MCSE) in Windows 2003 or the experience necessary to achieve certification if time is allotted
- 5-15 years of technical experience with increasing responsibility (references required)
