"Magpie – We have a part-time accountant for our small business. She needs to access QuickBooks remotely. What's the most secure way to give her access?"
What you want is Remote Desktop Services, or RDS. It's part of Windows Server 2008 R2 (
RDS information page here). With this, you can give any number of people remote access to your QuickBooks server.
It's a popular small-business option because you can use it from home OR on the go, and it's kept secure back at the server room.
If you're running Windows Server 2008 R2, you already have Remote Desktop Services. All you'll need is a Client Access License (RDS CAL) for your accountant. Set her up and she can use QuickBooks all day long!
