Network Engineer

Job description
The Network Engineer must have overall responsibility for maintaining network systems and services, ensuring service levels are sustained, including servers, routers, switches, firewall, VPN, traffic QoS, VoIP, other IP devices, as well as all critical applications by installing, upgrading, configuring and troubleshooting as required. Incorporating into this position is a proactive approach to the development and/or enhancement of procedures and/or methodologies to achieve optimum performance, delivery and continuity of Information Services.
Job responsibilities
Ensure integrity of all corporate data residing on network servers, including daily backup monitoring and reporting, offsite tape/media rotation for all backup sites, managing and monitoring corporate anti-virus systems and managing and monitoring systems security policies. Focus on Service Level Assurance. Sustain adequate consistency, predictability and stability of all networking systems and services supported by the Information Technology Global Services organization. Manage all networking systems projects including voice/data circuit installation and operation, QoS initiatives, monitoring and altering and timely problem resolution. Act as a contact person for outside vendors during installation, rearrangement, repair and/or removal of equipment or services. Utilize software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify, diagnose and repair complex problems and factors affecting network performance. Direct and perform all necessary IS audits to ensure service levels are sustained, systems are optimized and IS systems are not compromised. Develop network documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions. Perform after hours support duties to sustain networking systems and service levels – 24/7/365. All interactions, work flow, productivity levels and quality standards are implemented with a “Customer Service” approach to both the internal and external customers.
Position requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, IT or related field, or equivalent experience. Experience in the following required: Microsoft servers, Cisco routing, voice/data communications, network architecture and network services such as DNS, DHCP, file print, applications, MS Exchange administration, systems security, anti-virus software configuration and maintenance, server backups and data archiving, SQL database configuration and maintenance, network monitoring and alerting, firewall configuration maintenance, software distribution, network protocol traffic management and QoS configuration, web server configuration and management. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, problems solving skills required. A proven professional with excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation and time management skills. Strong team player. MCSE, CCNA preferred. MS SQL, SMS, Citrix Metaframe, ArcServe, Packeteer, HP UX or Sun Solaris experience preferred.
