Lync Server 2010: An Entire Communication System for the Office

Lync Server 2010 is a complete communications solution that's easy to use. Use Lync Server instead of a PBX phone system for the office. It provides 3 communication tools in one: Instant Messaging/Presence status awareness, Audio/Video/Web Conferencing, and Enterprise Voice for phones.

Lync Server is the next generation of Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS). It connects people in small & large offices in new ways. Here's how.

New Features in Lync Server 2010

  1. A full media gateway is no longer required for VoIP (saves thousands in hardware and configuration costs).
  2. Audio/Video and Web Conferencing (what Live Meeting did before) is now fully integrated into Lync Server.
  3. Lync runs on virtual servers for a smaller footprint, better response times and reduced cost.
  4. Group Chat: A new "bulletin board" area for multi-person discussions. Users can initiate a discussion, join an existing one or search through saved discussions.

Lync Capabilities List

Microsoft Lync Server 2010

  • Enterprise Voice
  • Communicate from any Office 2010 application, Exchange and SharePoint
  • Instant Messaging (IM)
  • Presence Status Awareness
  • E-911 (Enhanced 911) Service Included
  • Audio/Video Conferencing
  • Archiving Server, archives IM conversations and conference logs
  • Allows document sharing and application sharing in conferences
  • Records and sends voicemails to Exchange Server 2010 mailboxes

Advantages of Using Lync Server 2010 for Office Communications

  1. Replace Your PBX with a built-in Lync VoIP Phone System
  2. Virtual "Face-to-Face" Meetings – Video, app sharing and IM create a meeting environment without the meeting room
  3. Run Lync on-site, OR in a Private Cloud
  4. Each Lync user has a "Contact Card" that makes it easy for others to find & talk with them
  5. Communicate from Anywhere – No VPN needed between offices
  6. Transfer calls from your PC to your cellphone, or to someone else
  7. Migrate from an existing PBX to Lync Server
  8. Lync will connect to an existing PBX if you want to keep yours, or you want to stagger out the migration

Reasons to Choose PlanetMagpie for Your Lync Server IT Partner

PlanetMagpie provides hardware setup, implementation and support for Lync Server 2010 and the Microsoft Lync desktop client.

Lync Server has the same server cost as OCS 2007—but the licensing costs are lower.

Both on-site and Private Cloud (Lync hosted in our San Jose datacenter) options available.

PlanetMagpie was the first in the San Francisco Bay Area to install a full VoIP solution using OCS 2007 R2, Lync's previous version. Now with 3 Lync experts and Gold Partner status, we have access to Microsoft support resources only available to the top 1% of partners.

When you call us, you're talking on Lync Server.  PlanetMagpie's office communications run through Lync (we ran it through its paces before bringing it to customers).
