Exchange 2010 Hosting: Bypass Setup Time with the Cloud Option
Every few years the business world is faced with a big question: "When should we upgrade our Exchange server?"
Do it right away, get it over with? Wait until a service pack comes out? When
is the right time to upgrade?
There's a way to sidestep this whole issue though. Instead of the huge effort of upgrading all your in-house servers, you could try out a
Hosted Exchange 2010 package.
"Hosted" means no equipment to install on-site. Exchange 2010 runs out of our datacenter on a private cloud server. You don't have to concern yourself with upgrade snags, setting up backups, or any of the usual hassles.
We already offer
Hosted Exchange 2007 this way. But because of Microsoft's upgrades to the system, 2010 works even better as a Managed IT Services package.
Advantages to Using Hosted Exchange 2010
There are three areas where Exchange Server 2010 has big changes over 2007. These changes work whether you run Exchange in-house or host it through us. We've grouped a few of these changes here, so you can see what 2010 has in store:
A. Email System Protection -
The new Archival capability backs up emails automatically.
-
More ways to protect sent emails. The Do Not Forward policy already existed in Exchange. A new policy is also available in 2010: Internet Confidential. Using this policy, emails are encrypted during send.
-
Security from Microsoft Forefront, backed up by our firewalls.
B. Anywhere Access - Universal Inbox: One Inbox for email, instant messages, text messages, voicemail. Access it on your desktop, the Web, or mobile devices.
- Conversation View: View a series of related emails in a single thread, instead of a long list down your Inbox. Carries to mobile devices & Web access too.
- Text preview of voicemail messages. If they leave a phone number, it'll be a link you can click & dial in OCS 2007.
- In 2010 you can share calendars with an individual at another organization, or the entire organization (access determined by IT policy).
C. Flexible Email Storage, Reliable Access - Exchange 2010 can run on-premises in your office, as a Managed IT Service (Cloud Server), or a hybrid of both. PlanetMagpie's datacenter accommodates the Managed and Hybrid options.
- Exchange 2010 provides full redundancy of Server Roles on as few as 2 servers (On-Premises or Hybrid mode).
- Capabilities of CCR (on-site data replication) and SCR (off-site data replication) combined into one platform.
- Mail Tips notify users about potential mistakes (wrong sender perhaps?) before they send an email.
- The new Mailbox Move capability allows you to move Exchange mailboxes from 2007 to 2010 while still live – users will continue receiving mail moments after the move!
There's good reason to upgrade with all the new capabilities Exchange 2010 has. And if you go with a cloud option, you bypass the whole upgrade process. Including coming in on the weekend to move all the mailboxes. Think of all the customers you can pursue with the time saved!
